The Bucharest-based architecture studio BTF Arch redesigned two houses in the Bucureștii Noi neighborhood, giving them fresh identities and functions: distinctive residential architecture for two families. The landscape architecture firm CMD/LA was invited to create the garden design for the LV property.

Landscape architect Cosmin Coman proposed a romantic garden concept—an organic, natural setting that enhances, rather than competes with, the contemporary beauty of the houses.
The land’s natural topography shapes the LV Garden. The terrain gently descends by almost 4 meters from south to north, ending at the lake. This allowed for multiple themed areas: a miniature woodland of deciduous trees, a decorative pond fed by a natural spring cascading over large stone blocks embedded in the slope, and a wide lawn gently sloping toward the lake, framed by rivers of ornamental grasses and discreet stone-slab paths.
A contemporary gazebo, designed by architect Cristian Ghitau, offers the owners a serene place to contemplate both the garden and the lake, right next to a wooden pontoon. The “lake house” includes a glasshouse filled with flowers, interior plants, palms, lemon trees, ornamental grasses, and a small coffee corner. From inside, the owner enjoys the framed view of a dense birch grove—slender vertical trunks in striking black-and-white contrast.
No garden is complete without a rich variety of trees, shrubs, and perennials that delight in every season—through their blooms, shifting foliage colors, and graceful silhouettes. The landscaping work was executed by Natural Design, Bucharest.
A series of large planters hosts trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and massive stone blocks, recreating the feeling of a natural site with retaining walls integrated into the terrain.
An ambitious project brought together architects, engineers, designers, and landscape architects to create a haven where the owners can feel truly at home—disconnected from the hustle and bustle of an increasingly crowded capital.
